DOMESTIC GODDESS

Just For Us Ladies...Do Try This At Home!

Fresh Flowers...

I love fresh flowers and display them in clear vases...but most of us don't know what to do to remove the bloom from the glass!

Here's The Tips!

This is the result of hard-water deposits, which in turn cause grime to cling. Crystal vases, particularly older ones and those with a high lead content, are the worst offenders as the glass is porous and dirt gets trapped in it, making it harder to clean. Try filling the vase with vinegar and a handful of dry rice. Swirl around to loosen the deposits, leave overnight, then rinse with hot, soapy water and drain upside down. Alternatively, try a limescale remover for plastic kettles wear gloves and apply neat, rubbing gently with an old toothbrush. Rinse immediately.

To help keep vases clean, always use a flower food ( most bought flowers come with a sachet ). It helps prolong the life of the flowers and reduces the amount of waste polluting the water. It helps reduce the build-up of hard-water deposits. Finally, top up the water regularly to reduce crusty deposits forming as water levels reduce; roses and tulips are notoriously thirsty.

Mattress...

How can you clean and freshen your mattress soiled with urine and vomit?

Here's a tips that you should know...

Lovely! This is a two-person job, since you need to hold the mattress on its side while you clean it to stop it from getting too wet. Even though you may not be able to get rid of all the stains, the mattress will be clean and smell fresher. Lightly sponge the surface with a cold solution of washing-up liquid or upholstery cleaner - don't get it too wet. Rinse by sponging with cold water with a few drops of disinfectant. If the underside is soiled, repeat the treatment here as well.
Once clean, let the mattress dry thoroughly on its side, preferably outside, before you put it back on the bed, otherwise you could have a problem with mildew. If the smell persist spray with antibacterial. They can be used on most fabrics, including bedding. It eliminate odours and kills the bacteria that cause them, rather than masking the smell with perfume.
